You decided to come to Slovenia and visit the northwestern part of it. But there’s the catch – you have little time to spend here and want to know which sights are worth your time. Well, I decided to post about my top 3 I would recommend to you to see while visiting the Northwest Slovenia. And what is even better: 2 of them are free of charge. You know – the best things in the world are free.
Peričnik Waterfall
The first one is a waterfall (maybe I am biased here – I’m a sucker for waterfalls). For now is the most beautiful waterfall I have ever seen. With its 52m of height, it’s one of the highest in Slovenia.

Hiking time is long just about 30min and moderate demanding. The path is nice (people visit even in the rain) but you still need a good pair of shoes. There is no entrance fee.
A lot of people say that Waterfall Kozjak is the winner, but not for me.

Somewhere in the middle you can already see the smaller waterfall.

Tolmin Gorge
Tolmin Gorge is a very popular sightseeing in Tolmin municipality. The “tour” is 2km long, and you need minimum about 1-1h30min to see it all (normal to fast pace, without doing a lot of photos and without reading info that is placed around).

Lake Krn
This one is for those who come here to hike: you need 2h30min one way. If you have 2 days to spend, you can easily go and enjoy the view.

Krnsko jezero is almost 400m long, 150m wide and 17m deep in its deepest point. It is the largest high mountain lake and was a part of the Isonzo front in the 1. world war.
The hike is enjoyable, almost at the end the road goes downhill, and you can enjoy these views, just before the big “surprise”:

Also for this one don’t forget your shoes – the path has quite a lot of stones. You can enjoy this entrance free too.
So these are my top 3 choices I would make, if I had little time to spend in the Northwest Slovenia. If you don’t like this 3, above I also mentioned the Waterfall Kozjak, that is also only 30min walk one way.
Other lakes you can visit are: Lake Jasna, Lake Bohinj or Bled. Bled is becoming very touristic, so if you don’t like that – opt for Bohinj. Lake Jasna is also a very good choice!
