What to do in Tenerife North: top 5

Decided to go for a trip and you are searching for ideas for what to do in Tenerife? Asking if is North Tenerife worth visiting? This is a part two of a two part blog post (see part 1 for south here). In this short article you will find some top spots in the northern part of the island (Playa Tabaiba, Playa de Las Teresitas, Playa del Roque de las Bodegas, Almáciga Beach and Playa de Benijo, Los Gigantes, El Teide, Masca …). North Tenerife offers some amazing, breathtaking spots – in my opinion the this part is quite overlooked, maybe for being known as the more rainy side, but from my experience the difference was not so big – to be fair, there was no rain at all.

1. Playa Tabaiba

This beach offered such a nice view at the sunset time. We stopped on the way to Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The waves were really high at the time and we had some cute crabs kept us company. There was also a pool on the other side but it was empty at the time.

*10 minutes forward you can stop at Bocacangrejo or check different beaches on the way up.

2. Playa de Las Teresitas

The main sandy beach in the Santa Cruz de Tenerife region.

This is also a nice spot to continue your way to the inner part of the island, like Mirador Bailadero or Mirador Risco Amogoje. The route is really scenic with lots of turns. From here we got to the next spot.

3. Playa del Roque de las Bodegas, Almáciga Beach and Playa de Benijo

This is a majestic beach road, long 1,5 km where you can really enjoy some nice views. Also here the waves seemed a little bit too high but you can see quite a lot of people enjoying the sun.

We didn’t have time, but I would really recommend spending a few nights in the northeast area to also visit Playa de Roque Bermejo and Casas de Tafada. The forest offers a really nice energy and if you like hiking I am sure you will find some really nice spots.

These spots on the North are also higly rated: Mirador Aguaide, Mirador Punta Del Hidalgo, Bajamar natural pools, Mirador La Garañona, Beach Bollullo, Paisaje Protegido de la Rambla de Castro, Charco De La Laja …

4. Los Gigantes

A touristic spot, worth to visit and to enjoy the sunset. If you want, you can also choose a boat tour which can include dolphins and whales watching. The best time of year to catch some is during the migration season from November to February.

This region also offers Piscina Natural Acantilado de Los Gigantes.

5. El Teide

The National Park is really worth to visit. On the way to the Teleferico you have quite a few stops where you can park your car and have the feeling of walking on the moon. Is it important to note that if you want to hike the last 200m to the Pico del Teide (3715m altitude) you need a permit that you buy here. Other than hiking, a popular tour is also stargazing.

6. Extra: Masca and Drago de Icod de los Vinos

45 minutes from each, you can visit Masca and the oldest and largest living dragon tree in Parque del Drago. Masca is a small village in the middle of a scenic route, that makes you really slow down and enjoy your day.

Conclusion

If I visited Tenerife again I would definitely spend more time on the North side as it really offers some stunning views, with less tourists and chaos that you find on the South. So please, give Tenerife North a chance and don’t be discouraged with comments abourt North Tenerife weather. Still asking yourself if is North Tenerife worth visiting? It is, 100%! Hopefully you got some inspiration and ideas for what to do in Tenerife North.
